A tight
challenging tree & rhododendron lined course with an abundance
of wildlife. |
|
A tight tree lined course, not much sand
only 13 bunkers, but there's a lot of natural shape and quite a few
very large and well positioned mounds along the fairways. There is
water around the course but it need never really come into play.
The first hole is a tough par 4, the fairway narrows about 230yds
out with mounds pinching in left and right, you really need to carry
the right-hand mound to get a good shot at this green.
Hole 3 is the first par 3, 182yds to a raised green with bunkers
left and right. There is water in front of the tee and a large and
oddly shaped conifer tree directly in the line to the green.
The 4th is a short par 4 at 304yds, but such a severe left dogleg
it takes a good shot to get within a wedge. The ladies tee is well
forward and positioned to take out the dogleg, so from the red tee
it is a 194yd par 3. The green falls away steeply at the back and
is protected by bunkers left and right.
Hole 5 is the first and the shortest of the four par 5's at 478yds,
with the green tucked away to the right. There is a pond short right
and a greeen-side bunker left.
Six is quite short and straight, reachable in the right conditions
or from the forward tee, but watch out the fairway gets very narrow
towards the green.
The 8th is another sub 500yd par 5, the fairway narrows about 250yds
out with a mound left and trees coming in from the right, it then
doglegs left about 125yds from the green, so position is everything,
both off the tee and the second shot.
Hole 9 is an easy looking par 4, at 246yds it's shorter than some
par 3's I've played, but the pin position can add to the difficulty
especially back left behind the greeen-side bunker.
The 13th is another straight forward par 4, 330yds, no bunkers,
a definite birdie opportunity.
Holes 14 and 15 are both fairly short par 4's but their shape makes
them challenging.
The 18th is a good finishing hole, 538yd par 5, a rare generous
fairway, but you need to be left for a good second shot, so the
fairway is not really as wide as it seems.
A great lesson in course management. Next time, I swear, I'll think
my way round. |
